What YOU will do:  

The Safety & Environmental Technician will be directly responsible to the Lead Safety & Environmental and the Manager Safety & Environmental.  Shall possess basic knowledge of and assist in enforcing all applicable safety & environmental related VT Mobile Aerospace (VTMAE) PPMs, as well as local, state and Federal regulatory codes and standards.  Assist to maintain the physical control of all hazardous waste streams. Perform routine and directed safety & environmental audits of the facility and work force.

 

In This Role YOU will:

  1. Assist in maintaining VTMAE’s safety and environmental compliance through auditing and the enforcement of established PPMs, standards and codes.
  2. Must possess basic problem-solving skills & know how while being accountable to the Lead Safety & Environmental & the Manager Safety & Environmental.
  3. Respond to all accidents, personal workplace injuries & chemical & hazardous waste spills as directed.
  4. Assist in the performance of investigations resulting from accidents, personal injuries & spills at VTMAE.
  5. Respond to all accidental releases of chemicals on the facility.
  6. Assist in conducting facility wide, safety & environmental audits.
  7. Assist performing monthly portable fire bottle inspections.
  8. Assist performing monthly emergency eye wash station inspections.
  9. Assist in conducting Respirator Fit Tests for VTMAE’s employees.
  10. Assist in conducting GSE training (practical portion) to employees.
  11. Assist in the installation of overhead fall protection reels as required.
  12. Assist in the loading and management of all hazardous waste generated by the company.
  13. Assist in the operation of the wastewater effluent treatment system.
  14. Assist in the labeling of paint shop waste & drums; label & dispose of oil & fuel drums.
  15. Assist as a representative for the Safety & Environmental Department during regulatory agencies on-site audits.
  16. Any other duties assigned by Manager and or Lead Safety & Environmental including but not limited to new employee Orientation and Training etc.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Basic working knowledge or the ability to acquire good skills in the following:

Safety & Environmental standards found under 29 CFR - Labor, VT Mobile Aerospace Safety & Environmental procedures; hazardous materials spill cleanup procedures; working knowledge of hazardous materials storage inspection logs. Must be certified or become certified within 90 days of job assignment, to operate all motorized ground support equipment with the except for the 80K forklift.

SUPERVISION:   Under immediate direction.  Performs assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results.  Little room for deviation. 

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS: A moderate level of interpersonal skills is required to maintain an effective relationship with management and co-workers.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT: Requires easy mobility around all sections of the facility.  Must be able to occasionally lift 50 lbs.  Working environment requires climbing, stooping, and lifting on a regular basis in various weather climates throughout the year.  Requires the ability to wear a respirator without restrictions due to exposure to various fumes.

 

What YOU Need:  

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Possess or ability to acquire & maintain, DOT / IATA and OSHA general HAZMAT and safety courses.
  • 1-year minimum experience in safet or environmental or in handling hazardous waste.        
  • Good writing and computer skills are required to perform the duties of this job description.  The basic skills in Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel is highly desired.
