Who YOU are and what You can become:
Do you love pushing the limits of what 3D graphics and distributed games can do? We are looking for a dynamic, hands-on Software QA Tester who thrives on breaking complex systems and making them better. This isn’t a role for someone who wants to follow checklists all day — we need someone who enjoys exploring immersive, networked virtual environments and thinking creatively about how to test them.
On-site work is mandatory for this position - Candidates that reside in these areas will be considered Cambridge, MA
Who WE are and where WE are going:
MAK Technologies (MAK) develops commercial off-the-shelf 3D modeling, training, and simulation software that helps users link, simulate, and visualize their world. MAK’s primary users are in the aerospace, defense, and transportation industries, yet its products and services can help customers anywhere modeling and simulation is needed to train, plan, analyze, experiment, prototype, and demonstrate. MAK’s customers include the top ten defense integrators in the world along with hundreds of companies in Defense, Air Traffic Management, Command & Control, and Homeland Security. MAK also develops training solutions for the United States and International militaries to address individual and collective training. MAK is dedicated to serving its customers by building flexible products, offering superior technical support, and innovating new ways to enhance readiness through uniquely tailored training solutions.
What YOU will do:
Our flagship product, VR-Engage, lets users fly aircraft, drive tanks, and play first-person roles in massive virtual worlds. As part of our QA team, you’ll dive into these experiences daily, testing how they work across VR headsets, motion devices, and distributed simulation networks. You will work on-site in our Cambridge labs, collaborating closely with engineers in Cambridge and remotely to test and break things.
In This Role, You Will:
-
Design and execute test plans that go beyond the basics — focus on real-world scenarios in large-scale, networked environments.
-
Explore and stress-test immersive 3D simulations: from graphics performance to multi-user interoperability.
-
Work side-by-side with developers to validate new features and find creative ways to break things before customers do.
-
Identify, log, and track issues with Jira, and clearly communicate findings to the team.
-
Experiment with test automation and scripting to streamline repeatable scenarios.
-
Help represent MAK at occasional tradeshows or customer visits.
What YOU need:
Required:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Game Development, or related field — or equivalent hands-on experience testing/playing with complex distributed games and virtual environments.
-
Strong grasp of VR hardware/software, game engines, and 3D rendering pipelines.
-
Experience testing complex, graphics-heavy applications (Unreal, Unity, VBS, or similar).
-
Curious, dynamic mindset — someone who enjoys experimenting, exploring, and breaking things in distributed systems.
-
Excellent communication skills.
Preferred:
-
Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and scripting.
-
Exposure to Agile/Scrum workflows and tools like Jira/Confluence.
-
Background in simulation, gaming, or defense is a plus (but not required).
