The Material Conversion Engineer serves as a support function for the Material Conversion work cell for current production programs focusing on the industrialization of material handling and material conversion. This role will provide the second level of technical support for the work cell behind the front-line supervisors and shall coordinate support efforts between the business operations unit and the respective Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for assigned equipment.
The Material Conversion Engineer will work in the Operations team, on site at Middle River, supporting the material conversion work cell. This role will initially support the development of the processes and standards necessary to ensure efficient and compliant operation of the material conversion equipment is achieved. This will include creating workflows, identifying opportunities for automation and further capital investments, executing assigned development tasks related to equipment startup, and working within the digital infrastructure created for the work cell. The Engineer will also ensure compliant processes and standards are created to ensure proper material management and traceability is maintained through the entirety of the process from raw material receipt through shipping finished goods. After initial startup, the engineer will provide regular support to the work cell to ensure compliance and efficiency are maintained throughout all stages of the production process.

What YOU will do:
The Engineer demonstrates the capability to work independently (when required), and in collaboration with others, effectively interfacing and integrating their activities within the operations organization. An ability to establish and support multiple projects within reasonable time constraints is required. The Engineer is also responsible for timely identification and communication of project obstacles to the work cell manager.
- Serves as technical support for the work cell for all material conversion functions.
- Supports all Operation centric meetings to provide technical guidance and/or direction on process and material quality issues.
- Supports definition of KPI’s specific to the material conversion process as well as efforts to maintain/improve defined KPI’s.
- Manages assigned capital investment projects for industrialization of the work cell. This will include supporting the design and implementation of some of the capital projects, as well as managing the cost targets.
- Creates and reviews processes and procedures surrounding the operation and workflows occurring inside the work are cell compliant to NADCAP, AS9100, customer, and MRAS requirements.
- Drives compliance (first) and efficiency (second) into daily practices inside the work cell.
- Supports capacity planning and layout designs for the work cell.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What YOU must bring to Succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent field from an accredited university or college with 0 - 3 years of relevant experience.
- Technical background in composites and/or automation/robotics.
- Ability to support multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail with limited direct supervision.
Desired Characteristics
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with generating statements of work (SOW) for external contracting.
- Self-starter and technically curious with practical hands-on experience working with materials and/or machines.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with NADCAP requirements.
- 3D CAD/Design experience in CATIA or similar.
- Aerospace materials processing experience.
- Six Sigma training is preferred.
- MS office proficient

Estimate salary range for this role: $65,000 to $93,900 per year. ST Engineering considers several factors with extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates’ key skills, relevant work experience, education/training/certification, job level, and work location. Base salary is only one component of our competitive Total Rewards package.
