The Apprentice – Composites Mechanic shall be responsible to the Lead – Composites Mechanic and Crew Chief - Composites for the accomplishment of the assigned composite maintenance tasks. He or she shall ensure that the composite repair on the customer aircraft are performed in accordance with applicable technical data, on schedule, within the estimated or budgeted hours and meets the highest level of safety and quality of workmanship. 

 

Essential Functions:

 

  1. Complete the Composite Apprentice Training Program
  2. Maintain a binder tracking daily tasks on provided “On the Job Training” (OJT) forms
  3. Comply with the directions provided by the Composite Mechanic and above who is conducting the training.
  4. Perform lay out, wet-layup, assemble, pre-fit, and bond a variety of composite materials, such as fiberglass and various pre-preg materials.
  5. Ensure that the maintenance, preventive maintenance or alteration performed are signed off on the applicable aircraft records.
  6. Clean, inspect and apply sealants, adhesives and other chemicals in aircraft composite parts.
  7. Ensure that areas where work is accomplished are kept in a clean, free of FOD at all times and in an orderly manner.
  8. Perform only that work authorized by the Lead Composites Mechanic & above and ensure that the work is performed to the standards of highest standards workmanship required by VT SAA.
  9. Ensure that all tools and equipment used are kept in serviceable condition, stored in an orderly manner and are accounted for after each job.
  10. Exercise control over stock checked out of Stockroom.
  11. Participates in the company’s Continuous Improvement activities
  12. Perform additional duties as required by the Lead Composites Mechanic

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:   

  

  1. Must be able to pass Respirator Fit Check and be able to work with chemicals used in Composite repairs
  2. Must possess a high degree of confidentiality, the ability to work under pressure, the ability to handle multiple tasks, team player and be a self-starter.
  3. Must be able to read and interpret blueprint drawings and aircraft technical data such as the SRM, AMM, IPC, etc.
  4. Must possess good verbal and written communication skills, as well as, interact with all levels of employees; management personnel; and customer representatives. 
  5. Must be able to pass proficiency tests and interviews before being accepted into the program

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

 

SUPERVISION:  Under constant supervision. Performs duties after receiving instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results. Refers back to the lead for any technical queries related to the task at hand. 

 

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS: A moderate level of interpersonal skills is required to maintain an effective relationship among employees, various departments, management, and the customers.

 

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT: The position requires performing maintenance tasks in a shop environment and on the aircraft. Must be able to cope with stress and mental exhaustion due to the pressures of accomplishing set goals; meeting short deadlines; and possible long work hours. Exposure to solvents and chemicals is expected for this position. Working environment requires standing 90% of the workday on hard surfaces. Must be able to lift 50lbs. and report to work regularly.

 

  

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED Diploma

 

EXPERIENCE: Previous Composite-related training is considered
