JOB SUMMARY:
The Planner provides technical estimations and recommendations for all aircraft maintenance and modification projects requested by marketing in the sale of man-hours, materials, etc. Handles all planning and communication for maintenance projects, contracted with ST Aerospace San Antonio. This includes liaison with Project Managers, customers, and related departments.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Estimate schedule of man-hours and turnaround time through research and liaise with production, service bulletins, etc. on work packages forwarded from marketing/contracts. Recommend turn-around time based on man loading, tooling, experience and recommend non-routine factors based on aircraft age, cycle, condition (if known), operating environment, maintenance program or other factors as required.
2. Inventory customer’s work package for completeness and all necessary paperwork, i.e., bill of materials, work cards for customer-requested AD’s and service bulletins, work cards coinciding with engineering drawings, ST Aerospace San Antonio work order forms, list of job numbers, post flight discrepancy work orders, tooling list, ASR Index, etc.
3. Create a final work scope for the aircraft. This should list or reference all items to be accomplished and call specific attention to pacing items. It should include a complete B.O.M. broken down by card and job number; contain detail provisions for over and above work such as man-hour caps or inspection items from which discrepancies are over and above. Schedule requirements and other relevant details should also be included. This should be ready for each production department 4-5 days prior to aircraft input.
4. Coordinate and communicate all pertinent information of maintenance projects to the customer and/or production departments through negotiations, pre-induction meetings and aircraft status meetings. Coordinate scheduling of work with Project Managers and direct the Assistant Planners assigned to his/her projects on daily task requirements. Notify his/her projects on daily task requirements. Notify production managers of any change or proposed change in work scope that could adversely impact the schedule or man loading.
5. Exercise moderate supervision over assistant aircraft planners by coordinating and following-up on the progress of assigned projects as well as providing adequate training and verification of accuracy.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Good working knowledge or the ability to acquire skills in the following: Proficient working knowledge of all aircraft manuals and related materials; working knowledge of aircraft maintenance and non-destructive testing; knowledge of all paperwork procedures including job cards/time cards, routine/non-routine cards, S.R.M.’s, and work sign-off procedures; familiar with F.A.R.’s and company policies and procedures; Ability to research AD’s, service bulletins and all operator letter (AOL); Ability to read and interpret Engineering orders and blue prints; ability to acquire knowledge of computer mainframe and software applications; ability to supervise the work courteously and tactfully; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department heads, other employees and customer representatives. Ability to negotiate and bargain.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
SUPERVISION: The incumbent normally performs the duty assignment at his or her discretion and is limited only by policies set by administrative or legislative authority. Total end results determine the effectiveness of job performance.
INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS: A strong level of interpersonal skills is required to maintain an effective relationship between various departments, management and customer representatives.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT: Essential responsibilities are performed in a climate controlled office but not limited to the office. Must be able to cope with stress and mental exhaustion due to the pressures of accomplishing set goals, meeting short deadlines, maintaining numerous projects simultaneously, employee confrontations and long work hours. Must be able to climb work stands and access all parts of the aircraft.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: B.S. Aviation Management or related Technical Field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years commercial aviation, preferably repair station oriented, familiar with all phases of A/C maintenance.
